Happy Father’s Day!

I started my day off with a pit stop on the way to my parent’s house at the little bakery in my hometown. Dad loves his donuts and there was no way I could show up on Father’s Day without them.

After picking up the box of carbs I headed on to their house. Dad was disappointed to see me in shorts cuz he said I couldn’t go riding with him, but I quickly assured him he should have more faith in me cuz I had a pair of jeans in the bag I was carrying just in case he hadn’t already been out for his Sunday ride. After downing a couple of donuts, I got changed and we hit the road.

We didn’t have all the time in the world today to ride cuz my sister had to leave at 2pm for work and that meant Dad was responsible for watching Brodi from that point on. We did our typical loop, but after jumping on 340 we hopped off in Knoxville and took Route 180 through Brunswick and into Jefferson. We filled up the tanks for the next ride and hurried home.

Before we had headed out I got to see Brodi. He was very excited to see me and asked if I was going home after I rode my motorcycle. I assured him I wasn’t and asked if he wanted me to take him swimming when I got back. That was definitely a hit and no sooner had my Dad and I parked the motorcycles when we got back and Brodi was running out the door in his swim trunks.

It turned out to be a little chilly today for swimming so I managed to fend off the little monster for a little while. I mean…we had to eat lunch first. After lunch I finally conceded and got in my swimsuit. Corey said he’d get in too and Kyle wanted to go swimming. We all took the plunge into the 76 degree water and played around for a little bit. I finally made the boys get out cuz their lips were purple and before I knew I was all alone in the pool. Floating is a good relaxation technique so I took advantage of it. It also kept me pretty much submerged which was a good thing because whatever part of your body was out of the water was much colder than the part that was in the water.

I did eventually brave the cold and got out of the pool and changed into dry clothes…

My parents have a cat that’s been hanging around their house and sometime in the last two weeks it had 6 kittens under their front porch. They are feral cats and very skittish. I was able to catch a glimpse of one the entire time I was there.

Aside from kitten watching I played baseball and soccer with the boys. I built a ramp for Brodi to jump his bike off of, which he had a blast with. He also reconfigured it so he could ride his tractor up it, but he was smart enough to not make it a jump, he would just ride his tractor up the tracks and down the tracks on the other side. I’d say the ramp I built was about 1 foot off the ground and he was doing great with it. He also showed me how he could pop a wheelie and was tickled with himself.

As it got later the aggravating part of me kicked in. Brodi had a pretty cool water gun which is actually 4 guns in one. I snuck inside and filled one up with water and then proceeded to shoot Brodi with it….he had no idea and thought it was raining. It actually helped my Dad because he had told Brodi to clean up the wood from the ramp and put his toys away and once Brodi thought it was raining he said he was still sad, but now he understood Pop-Pop wanted him to put it all away because of the rain. Too bad he eventually figured out there really wasn’t any rain.

After that, Dad went in to enjoy the rest of his Father’s Day. I gave Brodi his bath and got him dressed for bed. He said goodnight to his Pop-Pop and we went upstairs for a glass of milk and a snack. When I tucked him in he wanted me to read him a bedtime story, but just like being unable to find the kid clean underwear in his room I couldn’t find any bedtime stories so I convinced him to tell me a story instead.

I can’t say that his story put him to sleep, but after a little while I left him and spent a few more minutes with my Dad before heading home. I think it was a pretty good Father’s Day and enjoyed spending it with all of the boys (big and little) in my life. J got back this evening as well, so I guess now it’s time to catch up with him!
